And another Kawasaki! Yep, this time a classic 1978 Z1000 - she is a US import and interestingly, these bikes were actually built in the US at that time. I bought this in 2007 in fantastic condition and un-restored with 17,000 miles on the clock. I plan to do what some call a rolling-restoration. First off is to fit twin front brakes - looks like the US models are mostly single disc. Having said that, I got a twin brake set-up off a guy who is re-building a 1978 Z1000 Ltd that was built in the US. Braided brake lines will also be added - got these in black finish so they look close to the original rubber ones. Then next on the agenda is the petrol tap - for this model Kawasaki went to vacuum and the bloody thing clicks. After a rebuild the tap noise is much less but still drives me nuts, so have ordered a Pingel petcock and adaptor. Over winter she'll get new steering head bearings (probably go taper bearings). After that it's just rolling maintenance / replacement. Oh and I must get one of those sexy and practical chrome crash guards to protect the engine cases. A great place for information is the Z1 Owners Club or Z1OC website >> A lot more is set to come on this bike, I'm sure... |
